Today I stumbled across two video lectures by David Goddeau at M.I.T. They provide a very good introduction to Java in 3 hours.
These are lectures #1 and #2 in M.I.T.'s Object-oriented Program Design and Software Engineering class.
The lectures aren't up on the M.I.T. Open Courseware website anymore, perhaps because they have switched to teaching the class in Python now. My understanding is that they are released under the Creative Commons Sharealike license.
I like Goddeau's teaching style. His explanations are detailed and thorough—he isn't dumbing down the material—but he explains everything in a way that's straightforward and easy to understand.
Lecture #1: Introduction to Java
Lecture #2: Classes
